Mechanics module WCAG 1.1.1 Level A

Alt text audit

Scans media library and pages for missing, empty, or generic alt text and delivers a prioritized issue list.

What it does

Function in one sentence — and in three sentences

Alt text is a WCAG requirement at the lowest level — and simultaneously the most frequently ignored aspect of daily editorial work. An alt text audit creates a complete overview of all media without usable alt text.

Unlike the AI module "AI Alt Text Generator"„ generated This module contains no text—it only shows where text is missing. It is the diagnostic layer; the AI module handles the treatment.

This is how the plugin implements it.

Technical measures

  • Media library scanAll images without alt text will be captured.
  • Generic text recognition: reports „Image of …", „image", „logo.png" as inadequate.
  • Page scanIt also checks embedded images that are not in the media library (e.g., CDN links).
  • PrioritizationImages on top traffic pages appear first.
  • Excel/CSV export the issue list for the editorial team.
In the plugin backend

You can find these settings in the module tab.

  • Scan frequency: daily / weekly / on-demand
  • "Generic" threshold: adapted pattern list
  • Ignore decorative images (using `aria-hidden="true"` or an empty `alt=""`)
  • Email report to admin: for n new issues / weekly / off
  • Prioritization by: Number of page views / Page importance / Date

Path in Admin: WP-Admin → Accessibility → Modules → Alt Text Audit

When do you need the module?

Use case

Recommended for any page with more than 50 images in the media library. A mandatory diagnostic step before an audit—otherwise, the audit report will count missing alt text manually.
