The frontend panel — live, on every DigElite page
Click on the bottom left corner. Accessibility button (The small icon with the person in a circle). The panel opens and you can try out the 8 adjustments directly. This exact panel Your visitors will receive this when you use the plugin on your site.
A toolbox — not a sales overlay
The difference to overlay widgets: the panel is Closed by default. Just a small, discreetly designed button at the edge of the page. No red banners, no "Attention, Accessibility!" pop-ups. Those who don't need it will hardly notice it.
When someone opens the panel, the settings remain. per visitor persistent — via `localStorage`, GDPR-compliant (no cookies, no server storage). The same settings will be active again immediately in the next session.
What visitors can post
- Font size. Four levels up, four levels down, plus reset. Scales EVERYTHING proportionally, not just body text.
- Contrast modes. Standard · High · Inverted · Saturation Off. High mode guarantees AAA contrast 7:1.
- Animation stopped. Freezes all CSS animations, GIFs, and video autoplay, even if the theme does not respect `prefers-reduced-motion`.
- Reading aid. A horizontal reading mask that moves with the mouse. Helps with concentration difficulties.
- Enlarge cursor. High contrast cursor — good for screen sharing and visual impairment.
- Read-aloud mode. Browser-native speech API. Clicking on text starts reading aloud from the paragraph. No external text-to-speech engine, no cloud dependency.
- Language switching. The entire website is translated (not just the control panel), implemented via the TranslatePress integration. One additional language is included in the basic version; further languages can be added as optional extras.
- Save settings. Auto-save to `localStorage`. Reset button for clean default settings.
The panel is 100 % operable with the keyboard.
- tab — Navigates through all panel controls
- Enter or spacebar — Enables buttons/toggles
- Arrow keys — Move sliders (font size, contrast)
- Esc — Closes the panel
- Old + A — Opens the panel from anywhere (keyboard shortcuts can be filtered)
Focus indicator is always visible (3px outline ring, AAA contrast). Tab order follows the visual order. No keyboard traps.
It can be operated just as easily on a smartphone.
On small screens, the panel slides up as a bottom sheet—all adjustments are accessible with the thumb. Buttons are at least 44×44 px (WCAG 2.5.5 "Target Size"). No horizontal scrolling.
On tablets, the panel appears as a side drawer. On desktops, it appears as a compact list in the bottom left corner.
3 self-tests you can take right now
- Increase font size: Open the panel, then tap "Increase font size" three times. This page will scale accordingly—no overlap, no cut-off text.
- Stop animations: Activate "Pause animations". Then look at, for example, the hero animations — they will all freeze.
- Keyboard test: Press tab 10 times in a row. You'll always see a strong orange focus ring. No hidden jumps.
