AI Alt Text Generator

Generates German, context-appropriate alt text for images without descriptions — directly in the media library.

What it does

Function in one sentence — and in three sentences

While the "Alt Text Audit" module identifies missing text, the AI module generates the texts. Bring your own key to Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, or a compatible provider—content goes directly to the provider, not via DigElite servers.

Each suggestion is displayed in the "Suggestion" field of the media details view. You accept it with a click. The plugin doesn't write anything without checking it first.

Technical measures

Bring your own key: Anthropic Claude (default), OpenAI, Mistral, Ollama-Lokal.
Context enrichmentImage file, optional file name, page title of first use — all goes to the AI as context.
German outputThe system prompt requires 1-2 sentences, not a "picture of...", focus on content.
Proposal workflowThe AI response is placed in the "Suggested Alt" field; the admin must confirm.
Bulk mode For older media library holdings: packages of 100, pause/resume, cost estimate before starting.

In the plugin backend

You can find these settings in the module tab.

Select AI provider + enter API key
Choose a model: affordable / balanced / precise (e.g., Claude Haiku / Sonnet / Opus)
Customize the system prompt (e.g., industry-specific)
Auto-apply in clear-cut cases: on / off
Bulk mode: Package size + pause interval
Token limit / Cost estimate per bulk run

When do you need the module?

Use case

Recommended for sites with > 50 untagged images. Significantly reduces manual alt text maintenance without sacrificing control — the admin approves every suggestion.

Important: AI suggestions are a starting point, not a finished product. For brand-relevant images, manual fine-tuning is often worthwhile.
